Personal Manifesto
David Chapman
As a kid I was often referred to as chubbsy-wubbsy, tubby, and my personal favorite, “Roly Poly” –that’s what a family friend from Australia would call me with a friendly grin on his face. What can I say? I liked to eat... a lot. My brothers were the main teasers (joke’s on them, now they’re the chunky ones
and I’m in shape). Thanks to some effective advertising I came across a program that taught me how to properly diet and exercise. Even though I was twelve, I still knew something about goal setting, making plans, and getting results. After three months I had lost forty-five pounds and had more energy than a toddler in a candy store! Advertising increased my awareness of something that has produced meaningful, long lasting benefits in my life; it influenced me to take action. Leo Burnett said, “Good advertising does not just circulate information. It penetrates the public mind with desires and belief.” I want to use advertising in the same way: to influence, motivate, and persuade audiences to take action.
